Kalverstraat

Shopping in the Kalverstraat

The Kalverstraat is the busiest shopping street in Amsterdam and is named after the calves market. The street starts at Dam Square and ends about 0.5 mile down at Muntplein.

Like  ‘De Waag’, Munttoren, the tower at the end of the Kalverstraat, was a part of the city walls.

Brands

Footlocker, Marks & Spencer, H&M, Pepe Jeans, Diesel & Rituals are a few of the different brand stores that you will be able to find on the Kalverstraat.

Bijenkorf Amsterdam

Bijenkorf Amsterdam

The Bijenkorf is a high-end department store and not only  a great place to shop, but its flagship store is housed in a beautiful historical building. The flagship store, which was built in 1912, is located on Dam Square right in the centre of Amsterdam.

In 2011 the department store became part of the Selfridges group.

Brands

The department store sells brands such as: Armani, Burberry, Calvin Klein, Diesel, Fendi, G-Star RAW, Louis Vuitton & Mark Jacobs. There is also Tax Free shopping for all non-EU residents.

Magna Plaza

Magna Plaza

Located close to the Royal Palace of Amsterdam, this old Post Office building is now a shopping centre where you can find some of the best shops in Amsterdam.

Design

The Neo-Gothic style building was designed by Dutch architect P.C.Peters. It was at a time when another famous Dutch architect Petrus J.H. Cuypers just completed the construction of the Rijksmuseum (1885) and the Central Station (1889), both full of historical references in their architecture.

Brands

Swarovski, Mango, America Today, Yankee Candle & Lacoste are some of the Brand shops that can be found in this shopping centre.
